Petition against the firing range in Alto Alentejo passes 2,500 signatures
On the night of 1 August, the petition "Stop the transfer of the Firing Range to Alter do Chão" passed 2,500 signatures, the threshold above which the law requires the petition to be debated by the competent parliamentary committee. The Movement will forward the new signatures to the Assembly of the Republic and demands the publication of the perimeter, the criteria and the results of the studies, as well as the hearing of the populations of the affected municipalities.
Petitioners take the opposition to the Alter do Chão firing range to Parliament
On 9 July, the National Defence Committee heard the petitioners of Petition PT130367, signed by around two thousand five hundred citizens. Members of Parliament from several political groups acknowledged the strength of the arguments, and one of them said he did not believe the project would ever go ahead. The Movement, which is non-partisan, stresses that nothing is decided while the studies have not been carried out and the announcement has not been withdrawn.
